No one believed RCB would let him go’ – Punjab Kings CEO shares story of captain KL Rahul.

ISTPunjab Kings CEO Satish Menon revealed why KL Rahul was chosen to lead the side once they let go of R Ashwin ahead of the last season.Team India star KL Rahul has been one of the top performers for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since joining the side in 2018. Rahul has not only been consistent with the bat but has also impressed with his leadership qualities after replacing R Ashwin as the captain of the side last season. Rahul was appointed captain after Ashwin was traded to Delhi Capitals ahead of the last season.


While he has been scoring heaps of runs season after season for Punjab, Rahul showed quality leadership skills last season and almost managed to inspire the team to the playoffs despite a disappointing start to their campaign. Punjab Kings had once lost five games in a row but a later surge kept them in contention for the top four till the end.However, they eventually failed to make it to the playoffs and had to settle by finishing at the sixth spot. Ahead of the start of IPL 2021, Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon has high hopes from Rahul and has lavished praise on the stylish right-hander, who he rated as one of the best emerging captains.



Menon revealed why Rahul was chosen as captain by Punjab Kings and said the franchise always believed he would make it big when they had first picked him in the 2018 player auction. I think he is one of the best emerging captains that you’ll see in recent times, in terms of his understanding of the game. I have always believed wicket keepers have the best view of what is going on and understand the game well. This is something that Viru (Sehwag) told me,” Satish Menon told Sports Today.


“He has been training under some of the best captains the country has seen in recent times. He is a great learner. I have seen him when he was in the first year, still finding his feet.
